Portfolio Day reflection paper
11/8/10
In Mr. Miller’s class we got to see many interesting and attention grabbing art colleges. There were two this year that i saw, Delaware College of Art and Design (DCAD) and New Hampshire Institute of Art(NHIA). They both interested me enough to consider art school again, or even to take summer classes. The school’s representatives seemed very proud and enthusiastic about their schools.
DCAD and NHIA have many similarities. Both schools consist of 500 undergradutate students. The schools are in the middle of two large cities, Manchester and Wilmington. They are very selective of who goes to their school, as you can tell. They both offer programs such as Ceramics, Illustration, Painting/ Fine art studio, and Photography.
Though the schools had some similarities, they both emphasize on something different. DCAD emphasized on how they offer 2-year programs for associate degrees. This opens the eyes to students that may want to transfer, or feel as though another 2 years and a 4 year college is a waist of time. DCAD has a 8:1 faculty/student ratio, which is average for a small city. At NHIA they came off very selecive. They are a newer school that is particuarly small. The faculty/student ratio is 12:1. The faculty feels it is important to give students as much attention as possible.
